Weight Loss Myths
Below you will find some common weight loss myths. We will try to explain how not everything you see/hear is accurate.
You should use a high protein low carbs diet
These diets try to obtain all of the body's required calories from high protein foods such as meat, dairy and eggs. A very small number of these proteins are taken from foods that have a lot of carbohydrates in them.
This diet does work, however many foods are forbidden which makes failure a much bigger chance. This diet also does not supply your body with enough nutrients, and raises cholesterol levels.
Want to look slim and beautiful?
These diets do lose weight quickly for some dieters, however muscle mass is also lost. These diets also make the kidneys work much harder due to the extra waste in the form of protein and fat.
It is not healthy to strain kidneys in such a way, this can cause dehydration, headaches and even dizziness. You are advised to discuss your diet with your doctor before using it for a long term use. If you want to diet, just try a healthy balanced diet, this will help you to lose weight without having to damage your body.
Fast diets really work
These fashionable quick diets are not healthy for your body. Any diet needs to supply your body with everything it needs. Many of these diets cut out foods without considering the impact on your body. These diets have strict boring rules which most people will struggle to stick to. This makes it much more likely you will end up abandoning the diet.
The only way to benefit from permanent weight loss is by exercising and avoiding foods that are known to make you fat. It is very important to exercise.
Reduced fat food is good for you
The only truly low fat foods that are low in calories as well are fruits. The rest of the low fat or reduced fat foods are not that good when you're on a diet. These low fat foods might have huge amounts of added sugar, flour or starch as flavor enhancers. These have more calories and so are not a great idea.
Eat vegetarian food
You must control and think about what you are eating, make sure that everything you eat is healthy. You need to analyze what you eat, and make sure you only eat healthy food. A vegetarian diet will not harm you so long as you ensure you eat enough calories and nutrients. If you just eat foods that fill your stomach but don't provide many nutrients it can cause huge problems in the future.
Plants have less nutrients than meat, and so you will have to eat more fruit and vegetables to make up for this. Some vegetarians eat dairy produce and so can get vitamin B12, D, iron and calcium from these. However true vegetarians can't eat dairy so they have to eat certain vegetables to get their intake.
Dairy products make you put on weight
Eating a large amount of dairy products is certainly a way to gain weight and put extra strain on your heart. This will put you at more risk from high blood pressure and strokes. However dairy products aren't all bad.
Dairy products contain a lot of calcium. Our bodies require calcium in order to maintain our bones. Calcium is extremely important in growing children, but it's still important in adults.
If you are still worried about weight gain due to eating dairy products then buy reduced fat or zero fat products. There are loads of different ones to try from. If you cannot drink milk try soy milk, or rice milk. It doesn't taste exactly the same, but it is very good for you.
Not all dairy products are so good, you should worry about butter and margarine. Both of these contain high amounts of fat. However if you only eat a little of them then you should be better. Butter is better than Margarine as it is less processed.
