Food Binges
Eating habits are equally as important as what you eat. Whether the foods you eat are good for you and which are bad.
We all know that it is not a good idea to binge eat. But, when is it a good time to eat and what could be considered a bad time to eat.
You should spread your meals out throughout the day. You should not deprive your body of food for long periods and then cram in a lot more food than you actually need all at once; this is called binge eating and is certainly not good for your health.
It is easy to get into the routine of waking late and then having no time for breakfast before work. You then skip lunch because you are too busy or just grab a coffee and a snack. Once you finish work you go home so hungry that you eat more for dinner than you would have normally had for breakfast, lunch and dinner combined. Often you are so full that you end up slouched in front of the television all evening.
Can eating all your daily food in one go be considered the same as eating three satisfactory meals? Of course not. Our bodies were not designed to cope with and digest this amount of food in one go. You have starved yourself all day and then overloaded it, which it can’t cope with.
Binge eating is dangerous as you are often tempted to eat junk food or other unhealthy foods, which are high in calories and fat.
As your body is so hungry it demands food. More often than not you will skip the healthy foods to reach for whatever is easiest, usually something unhealthy.
It is important not to skip any of your three meals a day; this will keep your body satisfied and less hungry. This will mean you are less likely to reach for the snack food.
There is no harm in having the occasional snack as long as it is a healthy snack. In fact it is recommended by doctors, who say it can be good for you. A healthy snack can give your body a much-needed boost and can keep you going until your next proper meal.
Effectively promote long term weight loss
It is important that you keep your snacks healthy. You should not eat junk food full of fat but instead only eat foods that are good for you. Eating food full of fat can make you tired and sluggish.
Your blood sugar levels can drop while you are starving yourself, this is dangerous and you will feel shaky and hungry. You will more than likely just grab whatever food you can get your hands on just to stop the craving; most likely junk food, not the healthy foods you should be eating.
With a little planning and organisation you make three meals a day easily.
If you are always in a rush in the mornings it is best for you to do as much as possible the night before. You could make up a packed lunch and add in a few cut vegetable or fruit to keep you going throughout the day.
You can plan what you are having for breakfast the night before. You should keep some cut veg in your fridge in case you fancy an omelette. If you are pushed for time it is quick and healthy option.
You can even decide the night before what you are going to have for dinner the next day and get as much of it prepared as possible. Then even if you come from work exhausted you will have little to do before you sit down to a healthy meal.
If you own a crock-pot you could prepare all the ingredients for a casserole or stew the night before. You can set it to slow cook while you are at work, then when you arrive home there is a delicious hot meal ready and waiting.
The key to eating three good meals a day is in the preparation and planning. You should write out a schedule if you need to. It’s easy to get into the habit if you put your mind to it.
