Fad Diets

We all look in the mirror and realise that we're not quite as nice as we used to be. We can be our own worst critic. I'm sure we can all remember the little voice inside of our heads that tells us our bum looks big. Then we try to convince ourselves that it's just the clothes.

Unfortunately that doesn't work, we normally just end up feeling guilty for eating the wrong things. The result is normally vowing never to eat any junk food, and a quick search on the net to find some interesting diets.

Fad Diets Normally the very first thing that people do when they notice a bit of extra weight is to panic. Then they look for the quickest way to get rid of this excess weight.

This is a huge mistake, a quick fix is not something that will work. If you use a quick fix your problem isn't really being solved at all. Try using a diet that takes longer than just a few days or weeks. You really need to put some effort in if you want to lose weight.

These quick fix diets that claim to help you lose weight instantly do what they claim sort of. They are mainly aimed at reducing the amount of body water. So technically you do reduce your weight, but you will pile it all back on within a couple of glasses of water.

Effectively promote long term weight loss

These diets fail to target body fat, and so are ineffective. A good diet needs time in order to work, if you can lose just one pound a week then you are doing pretty good. Any more than 2 pounds per week loss of weight is bound to be you losing lean tissues, the things that make up our muscles. This is certainly not something you want to do.

Slow diets rid your body of fat, fast diets also reduce your muscle mass.

Fast weight loss programs can become a vicious circle. The more muscles a person has, the higher their metabolic rate is. This means that a smaller amount of food is converted to fat in order to be stored. This is because your muscles need much more energy.

Eating healthilyHowever these quick diets work by reducing your muscle mass, if you lose muscle mass then your metabolism will slow down. This means that more of the food you eat will be stored as fat.

Starving yourself is another really bad idea, you need food for your metabolism to function. Your metabolism must work at its normal rate for you to lose weight.

The right kinds of food that you eat is also important, you do need calories. There is a small difference between feeling hungry, and feeling starved. You might feel hungry when you reduce your food intake, you might feel starved if you do not eat enough calories to maintain your body.

Food is a necessity, without it we cannot walk, go to the gym or do any form of exercise. You do not want to starve, you want to diet.
