There are a hell of a lot of lies out there on the internet about dieting, well maybe not lies let us call them myths.


Just because you see the same thing mentioned in numerous places it does not mean to say that it is true. Here are some examples, just because one site suggests that you do not eat any sugar at all in your diet, does it mean that it is a good idea?


Not many people are able to completely avoid foods, they need to have the odd naughty treat every now and again in order to stay on the straight and narrow. There is absolutely nothing wrong with treating yourself, just as long as you do not treat yourself every single day.

The body is therefore encouraged to use fat because there is not enough energy available from your calorie intake. It is important that a diet must be tasty, otherwise you will get sick of it. Banning foods will no doubt result in you abandoning your whole diet because you cannot bear not eating that one food again.

You also should not get too convinced with meal replacement products such as Slimfast. These products cannot form part of a healthy diet, they are low in fat but high in protein. These products must not be used for longer than 4 weeks.


The body needs calories in order to function correctly, if you cut them out completely then it is very bad because your muscles and even internal organs require calories to function.


You can use meal replacement products for a few weeks, just use them as a shock treatment. You should not rely upon them for months at a time, that is just going to cause trouble. The same can be said about the single food diets that seem so popular at the moment, that is because these are based on the same idea.


Another piece of bad information you can find nowadays is that the best way to lose weight is to use a low-carb, high protein diet. This came about as a result of Hollywoods effects on the world.


Pretty much everybody famous is on one diet or another. A diet that is low in carbohydrates makes the body use carbs that are stored within the liver and muscles. This does make you lose weight, but it is normally just from water started in body, and also puts a lot of extra pressure on your organs.

Nobody should be afraid of carbs such as potatoes, bread and pasta. Carbs are in actual fact extremely good for you, because they fill you up without too many calories.


You can certainly eat moderate size portions of carbohydrates, as long as you do not use any sauce or butter on them, both of which are high in fat.

It is important not to lose to much weight, some people suggest that for your diet to be successful you need to lose 2 pounds a week, that is a lot of weight! It is not a good idea to lose weight so quickly because you will not just be losing fat, but also muscle mass, and internal organ mass.

Fat is actually good for you, in small quantities that is. Your body needs some fat in order to use fat soluble vitamins such as A, D, E and K circulating through your body.


Fat also brings with it essential fatty acids such as omega 3 and omega 6. These must be present in your diet because they are vital to your health. You should eat 35% of your calories in fat.


Some people suggest that a diet is enough on its own without any form of exercise. However that is not true. Exercising is the best way to burn up any excess fat stored anywhere in your body.


If you just sit at your desk working all day, it might make you stressed, but it will not burn off any of your fat. You must exercise in order to lose weight. Exercise is much better than rotting in front of the TV all night.
